If you’re looking for a soft mattress, the Casper Dream is a solid pick. In our lab evaluation, we found the model to be a standout for petite back sleepers, and it serves all other sizes and positions very well. If you sleep with a partner, you should feel very little vibration from their movement. CR members give Casper mattresses high marks for comfort and owner satisfaction.
For Black Friday, snag any of Casper’s newly revamped mattresses for 40% off— the lowest we’ve seen all season.
The Casper Snow is one of the least heat-retaining mattresses we’ve tested, making it great for those who sleep hot. Combining pocketed coils with layers of foam, this hybrid mattress is particularly supportive of back sleepers of all sizes and is also well-suited for petite to large side sleepers. With a firmness rating of 4 out of 10, the Casper Snow is on the softer side. Its excellent stability rating (an improvement from its previous iteration) means you should not feel vibrations from your partner’s movements.
The Sleep Number C2 earns a stellar rating for petite and average back-sleeper support and scores very well in our support tests for all other sleepers. Those sleeping with a partner will appreciate that this bed is quite stable, so movement throughout the night remains mostly isolated. CR members who own a Sleep Number mattress are very happy with their purchase, and the brand earns a top-tier comfort rating.
As its name suggests, the Sleep Number m7 Memory Foam Smart Bed is a foam-forward bed. Our tests show that this adjustable-firmness mattress offers excellent support for petite and average back sleepers, and very good support for most other sleepers. The one area where it doesn’t shine is in support for large and tall side sleepers. These dreamers will find better bracing from the p6 which is also on sale for 20% off.
Avocado makes some top-notch mattresses, and this sale is a great chance to save on one. (The Green usually goes for $1,999, and the Green Pillowtop is priced at $2,799.) Both Avocado mattresses support a wide range of side- and back-sleeper body types. On our firmness scale, the Avocado Green is very firm and the Green Pillowtop is medium-firm. The Leesa Studio mattress is an exceptional choice for petite back sleepers, as it earned top marks in that lab test. Petite side sleepers and average and large/tall back sleepers will find the mattress offers very good support. But average and large/tall side sleepers may want to consider other options because the Studio had only average performance in those simulated tests.
This Beautyrest mattress is another model that’s back down to the same low we saw during the last big sale weekend. It may be a suitable option for large and tall back sleepers, as it got top marks in our test for that sleeper group. It performed nearly as well for sleepers of all other sizes and sleep styles, except large and tall side sleepers, for which the mattress only got middling test results. Otherwise, durability is first-rate, with little in the way of sagging, softening, or other damage in eight years of simulated use.
Finding the right mattress for how you sleep can be tricky, but in our tests, the Midnight Luxe is a great choice for people of all sizes, whether they sleep on their back or side. One thing to note about this mattress is that it’s 14 inches high, so you’ll need deep-pocket sheets.

The Leesa Legend Hybrid combines innersprings and foam, and proves to be a winning combination for back sleepers, who can expect very good support. For all but petite side sleepers, though, support is merely average. The durability is first-rate, with little sagging, softening, or other damage in eight years of simulated use, and this model is highly stable. The Leesa brand earns high marks in CR’s owner surveys for comfort and satisfaction.
The Leesa Sapira mattress garners the same score as the Legend Hybrid listed above, and it, too, is back to its usual "sale" price. Around bigger sale moments, we tend to see it selling for $100 less. It, too, combines memory foam and innerspring, and it offers very good support for sleepers of all types. The durability of this mattress is top-notch as well.
If you’re looking for a softer mattress that offers support, the Nolah Natural may just fit the bill. It gets above-average ratings for people of all sleep styles and sizes, and it shines when it comes to durability. The only place it falls short is in stabilization, where it gets middling scores in CR’s tests.
Bear Mattress is offering 35 percent off sitewide right now. A mattress purchase will also get you two Cloud pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector at no extra cost. (The company typically includes only pillows outside of big sales like this.)
The Bear Original foam mattress performs well in our tests, and it’s a good choice for back and side sleepers who are petite or of average height. (Tall folks may want to look elsewhere.) CR’s tests found that this mattress tends to retain heat, so it may be best for those who sleep cooler.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid innerspring/foam mattress-in-a-box comes through with above-average support for nearly every size and style of sleeper. The exception: large and tall back sleepers. The durability is impressive but stability is just average, which could leave sleepers feeling vibration from a partner’s movements. And this model doesn’t make shifting sleep positions easy. With a firmness rating of 1 out of 10, it’s quite soft.
With the code BLACKFRIDAY, the price matches the low price we tend to see this time of year.
The Zoma Hybrid is one of the most budget-friendly options among our list of top innerspring mattress-in-a-box performers. Sleepers of all shapes and sizes should receive very good or excellent spinal support, with average-sized (or smaller) back sleepers doing especially well. This 13-inch mattress limits motion transfer pretty handily, too, and like most innerspring mattresses, it won’t make you sleep hot. It’s pretty great at motion isolation (unusual for an innerspring) and feels pretty soft, rating a 3 on our firmness scale. Zoma offers a 100-night free trial, and you can return it after 31 days from delivery for a full refund.
