CR's Take
The V90 Cross Country falls short of the refinement expected of a midsized luxury car because of its stiff ride and gruff-sounding engine. The four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged engine pulls strongly, but acceleration falls below class expectations; we measured just 23 mpg overall on the similar (and now discontinued) S90 sedan. The lone transmission is an 8-speed automatic. This raised wagon has decent ground clearance. Handling is sound but ordinary. The roomy cabin is gorgeous, with supportive seats, but the touchscreen infotainment system proves to be frustrating to use. FCW, and AEB with pedestrian detection are standard. Volvo's Pilot Assist system, which combines steering assistance and adaptive cruise control, is standard.
