Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Subaru Legacy owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

What Owners Say

Other in-car electronics problem

""The screen freeze caused the climate control to be inoperative, meaning none of the climate buttons worked during this entire time. No heating or colling or defrosting or no fan control etc. At times the windows would be completely fogged up creating a potentially dangerous driving condition. The car was taken to the dealer and I was told that the car needed software update, which I find a bit vague as the car updates software over the air. I would be concerned taking this vehicle on long drives and keep a 10mm wrench in the car in case this happened again, so that I can disconnect the battery terminal. This complain has been reported to NHTSA as well.""

Anonymous, GA (2023 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

""The remote start and the remote access, which occurs through the MySubaru application, failed due to a failure of the car's DCM""

Anonymous A., IA (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

""My old iPhone SE 2.0 paired with the system for voice calls [sending and receiving], but I was never able to get text messages to display or be read aloud by the system, nor could the service dept. at my dealer. A minor annoyance on an otherwise excellent, fun to drive car.""

Anonymous, VA (2023 Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"Turned in A/C in May 2025 in hot day. Did not blow any cold air. Called dealer and was repaired about 2 weeks after the issue was known"

Anonymous, MA (2023 Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Refrigerant leaks

"Wasnt cooling as well as new but still cooling. Refrigerant leak fixed under warranty."

Anonymous, FL (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

""trans lockup feature often does not work. engine rpms stay very high and will not lower. for example, engine remains at 1500-2000 rpms at 30-45 mph. 1500 rpm is normally 60 mph. when engine is cold and even after a 1 -2 minute warmup, transmission will allow engine to rev to 3000-3500 rpm or more before "shifting" under very mild acceleration. Dealer refuses to acknowledge problem.""

Anonymous, MI (2023 Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Power steering

""Multiple warning lights, extreme difficulty steering. Under warranty car towed to dealer where steering system was replaced. Occurred and repaired in November, 2024 when car had approximately 10000 miles on it.""

Anonymous A., SC (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
