Other electrical system problem

"I had the dealer install a towing package with power for the trailer lights when I bought the vehicle. Three years later, I bought a utility trailer. The installed trailer package does not provide electricity. Wonderful. The controls sometimes act very weird in some combinations. One time I had the defroster on in the summer when there was high humidity. I shut the vehicle off to go into a store. I could not lock the doors. After fiddling around for a long time, I found that if I turned off the defroster, I could finally lock the doors! WTF? The Subaru dealer said that nothing was wrong. I noticed that they had brochures touting the high rating that Consumer Reports gives to some of their models, like the Forester. They did not have a Consumer Reports related brochure for the Ascent!"

What Owners Say

Shocks or struts

""Problem first noticed when even small bumps were transmitted as sharp, hard bangs. A larger bump resulted in significant rattling in the suspension which was diagnosed as total failure of both struts. The Subaru dealer in the city I was visiting at the time estimated over $1700 damage, but said it was safe to drive. I drove it 350 miles to my dealership who told me it was the worst strut failure they had seen and that it was not safe to drive. It was repaired under warranty and the dealership in Marion, Illinois provided a new Forester as a loaner until repairs were complete. Repairs took about 3-4 weeks due to problems getting replacement struts.""

A melting ground terminal increases the risk of a fire.
Summary:
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Ascent vehicles. The ground bolt that secures the ground terminal of the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater may have been improperly fastened, which could result in melting of the ground terminal and surrounding components.
What should you do:
Owners are advised to park their vehicle away from structures and to avoid leaving the vehicle unattended while the engine is running. An owner who notices or smells smoke coming from the dash or driver's footwell area should immediately stop operating the vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the "Off" position. Dealers will replace the PTC heater ground bolts and if necessary, replace the ground wire and the connector holder, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 6, 2023. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRL-22.
