CR's Take
The Sable, like its corporate twin the Ford Taurus, is a good car that's showing its age. It's roomy and comfortable, with a decent ride and spacious rear seat and trunk. Handling is sound but not agile, and the brakes produced long stopping distances in our tests. The optional 3.0-liter, 200-hp V6, which we prefer to the base V6, performs well, but isn't as responsive or quiet as those from Honda, Nissan, or Toyota. The bland but well-assembled interior has a comfortable driving position for most. The wagon offers a small, rear-facing third-row bench that provides seating for up to eight passengers.
