CR's Take

The Mercedes AMG GT is offer in both two- and four-door body styles. These ultra-exclusive machines are low, wide, and brawny. The GT turns heads even before their powerful engines rumble to life. This luxury, high-tech sports car was developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG, the special high performance workshop. It is a German take on the overlap between a sports car and a muscle car. Updates for 2025 include a new entry-level base GT43, powered by a turbo four-cylinder; a GT63 Pro, which gets a twin-turbo V8; and a GT63 S plug-in hybrid model. The V8 versions have wonderfully sonorous exhaust soundtracks full of rumble and fireworks. A nine-speed automatic is standard; both rear- and all-wheel drive are available. Various driving modes allow drivers to fine-tune the experience from a grand-tourer to a track focused barn stormer. The cabin is beautifully finished, the seats are super comfortable and the audio system rivals a concert hall.

Low, wide, and brawny, the Mercedes AMG GT turns heads even before its V8 rumble sparks to life. The second sports car developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG, following the gullwinged SLS AMG, the GT is a German take on the overlap between a sports car and a muscle car. The base GT 53 has a 469-hp, 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an accompanying exhaust soundtrack full of rumble and fireworks. The top AMG GT 63 belts out 577 hp. Recent updates include various interior and exterior changes as well as a retuned suspension, refreshed infotainment system, and an available three-person rear bench seat. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are standard, but blind spot warning is optional.

The second sports car developed inhouse by Mercedes-AMG, following the gullwinged SLS AMG, the GT is a German take on the overlap between a sports car and a muscle car. The model line launched as the GT S, boasting a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that churns out 503 horsepower, with an accompanying exhaust soundtrack full of rumble and fireworks. The line expands with an AMG GT in mid 2016, adding a slightly more affordable variant with the same engine, detuned to 456 hp--still more than enough.
