    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Heavy water leak from the ceiling around the moonroof control panel. It happened once in 2024 and once in 2025. Each time was after the vehicle sat for an extended period with snow/ice on the roof and it only leaked right after driving. It does not leak in rain or car washes. The dealer has been unable to identify the root cause so it will probably happen again."

    Anonymous A., MI (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Other noises & leaks problem

"It is a known issue that the breaks squeal upon stopping. Hard to accept in a very expensive new car. The road noise was also unbearable. We traded it on for the new car."

    Anonymous, MT (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"The car's suspemsion is very squeaky. Dealer greases the rubber bushings when he changes the oil. Told me Mazda aware of the problem and is working on it."

    Anonymous, RI (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Squeaks or rattles

""There is a heavy squeak underneath the front of the car. It is worst when turning at low speeds and going over an uneven surface. It is incredibly aggravating in a nearly $60,000 vehicle. The dealer has been unable to fix the issue.""

    Anonymous A., MI (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Bushings

"Front control arm bushing was creaking. Mazda replaced it under warranty."

    Anonymous, TX (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Other steering/suspension problem

""steering will temporary disengage while turning (i.e. lost control for brief second), sometimes the steering wheel will continue pulling into the direction while turning after I complete the turn, have to fight to strighten the car. super dangerous in both conditions.""

    Anonymous, FL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"Steering power assembly was uneven when unwinding the wheel. A recall replacement solved the problem."

    Anonymous, TX (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

""A crunching sound when shifting from first to second gear. Could not be resolved by dealership despite multiple attempts and then they eventually said it was normal, despite their being a service bulletin about the issue.""

    Anonymous, ON (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Rough shifting

"Car sometimes locks in gear at startup and then violently shifts into gear as more "gas" is applied. Car also occasionally locks in 1st gear when entering highway and won't shift into new gears... Have to go to neutral or pull over to reset transmission. Has always happened from time to time and there is no fix I am aware of."

    Anonymous, UT (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

""Switching between electric and gas is not smooth .it is jerking movement , uncomfortable""

    Anonymous, MA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Anonymous, FL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

""Thwe throttle assembly needed to be replaced - caused a catastrophic failure in that if you were driving on the freeway and the problem occured, the engine shut down and only allowed you to go 8 miles an hour. The hybrid system refused to allow the electric engine to take over, even if there was charge available. Were fortunate to be in the right lane when it happened the first time. Repair was covered under warrenty. Car also has a problem in that going uphill with electric motor, sometimes the gas engine doesn't kick in when more power is needed.""

    Anonymous, CA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"2 problems. Throttle and throttle body had to be replaced. Radiator leak caused radiator and water pump to be replaced"

    Anonymous, CA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Unsure 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    EV Battery

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

""hybrid malfunction that causes the car to seize, will not start nor go into gear, or to charge. car can't even be towed on flatbad because the transmission is stuck on park. it was in the dealership for 4 months while they try to diagnosis and fix the problem""

    Anonymous, FL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

""There was a power leak that caused the vehicle to disable itself when driving. It took a month to fix and we had to rent a car for part of the time, as Mazda didnt have a loaner vehicle. The power leak had to do with a water heater leaking.""

    Anonymous A., CO (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Other electrical system problem

""The model I have has a sensor under the rear bumper that I use with my foot to signal the car that I want to open the rear hatch. My success rate with this switch working is about 25%. The make the matter worse, when I charge the car in my garage, I have to drag the charging cable from the left garage wall (where my charger is located) to the right rear corner of the car (where the charging port is located. About 10-15% of the time, if the cable goes along the floor under the rear bumper, the car senses it and it opens the rear hatch! As the car is large (3 row SUV) and it barely fits in the garage and, if the garage door is down, the hatch will bang into the garage door and damage the paint/metal unless I jump in between the hatch and the garage door! It is frustrating and my spouse is worried I will get crushed one day between the hatch and the garage door!""

    Anonymous A., GA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Remote engine starter

"This remote starter is causing an engine light every time you use it"

    Anonymous, MA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Tailgate, hatch or trunk

"The tailgate won't raise all the way. It stops about 4" short and I have hit my head on it no less than 300 times. I would literally not purchase this vehicle on this issue alone. I have checked other Mazda models with lift gates and they don't do this. Mazda service says there is no fix."

    Anonymous, UT (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

Electric drive failure, replacement or malfunction.

    What Owners Say

Electric drive motor malfunction (didn't need replacement)

""With an average of once or twice a week, while driving on the electric motor, I would get a message in the center screen Mi Drive Unavailable and the car would then switch to the ICE engine. This is random and frustrating as I paid extra for a PHEV and the car forces me use the ICE!""

    Anonymous A., GA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
