CR's Take
This SUV pioneered the luxury-SUV trend three decades ago. It comes with a host of high-end amenities as well as full-time four-wheel-drive. The Range Rover interior has an old-world English ambience with plenty of leather and real-wood trim. It also features a four-stage air-suspension system, which can lower the body when parked to make getting in and out easier; once youre under way, it automatically rises again. The ride is relatively good though not as comfortable as the one in the Toyota Land Cruiser and its Lexus LX470 sibling. For 2001, the 4.6 liter V8 becomes standard, but the vehicle still lacks go-power. A redesign is due for 2002.
