CR's Take
The Optima is redesigned for 2006 and ranks among the better family sedans. It is pleasant and a good value, with a roomy back seat. Both the 2.4- and 2.7-liter EX models we tested had a comfortable ride, but suspension noise is pronounced. Handling is not particularly agile, but the Optima is very secure. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder returned 23 mpg overall, while the more powerful 2.7-liter V6 got 21 mpg overall. Our tested models had the smooth, five-speed automatic. The interior is fitted with high-quality materials, but the driver's seat lacks lumbar support.
