Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2022 Kia Niro Electric owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

What Owners Say

12V battery

""When I recently updated the maps I got a message that the maps had been updated. I then got a low 12v battery warning and all displays died. Nothing electrical worked, not power locks or windows. I removed the 12v battery and put it on a trickle charger. Everything worked OK after that, but because the 12v battery shouldnt be depleted by running a map update, I took the car to the dealer. They cleared the integrated charge control unit (ICCU,) which I suspected to be defective. They said the battery was only at 13% charge and should be replaced. The dealer wanted $330 to replace the battery, so I replaced it myself with an Interstate Battery H5 AGM battery ($180 at Costco.) The car has only been in service 2-1/2 years in a mild climate, so thats much too early for the battery to fail. Ill be keeping an eye on the health of the new battery and for any recalls on my car.""

Keyless entry

"Three times in the past year the keyless entry on my car has failed to work. This seems to be related to the problem Ive been having with the 12v battery not maintaining a full charge."
