CR's Take

Infiniti's version of the Nissan Armada costs about $10,000 more and brings a more-luxurious interior with a standard navigation system. The 5.6-liter V8 in our tested Armada was smooth and powerful, linked to a slick five-speed automatic. Overall fuel economy of 13 mpg is dismal. Both vehicles feature an independent rear suspension, and handling is responsive for vehicles this large and tall. The ride was stiff, and engine noise was pronounced. The interior is spacious, but the third-row seat is small. Power-folding rear seats were added and interior materials were improved for 2008.

2011-2013

2011 Redesign Year

With the 2011 redesign, the big Infiniti moved to a new platform. It also became a plush luxury liner with a quiet, well-equipped cabin and a supple, steady ride. However, its high step-in, ungainly handling, and fuel economy of just 15 mpg overall are detriments. Standard safety features include stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Options include blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control with automatic braking and lane-departure warning. Infiniti changed the QX56 name to QX for 2012 and 2013 model years. The name changed again to QX80 from 2014 onward.
