Road Test

This version of the Dodge Durango is a big improvement over its trucklike predecessor and is more competitive among midsized and large SUV models. The Durango handles securely, but it isn't particularly agile. The ride is relatively comfortable and the cabin is quiet, although engine noise is pronounced. Acceleration is quick from the optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8, but this engine returned a paltry 12-mpg overall -- among the worst of competing models. We also found the interior fit and finish to be subpar.
