Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2025 Chevrolet Equinox owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

What Owners Say

Display screen goes blank

"Dispaly would go on and off the first few times then the posted speed limit indicator stopped working and the clock was wrong when set to use network time. Dealer had to reset system"

Anonymous A., PA (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"voice command function inoperative - must enter all data manually"

Anonymous A., NC (2025 Chevrolet Equinox Activ 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Other in-car electronics problem

"The active noise cancellation system made loud, continuous noises at specific engine speeds. It could not be disabled. It was worse with luggage in the rear and during hot weather. It was particularly bad on the highway when cruising at certain (common) speeds. It began in May during a long trip when the weather got hot. I measured the volume at 86 dB, using an uncalibrated app on my iPhone. It was very uncomfortable. The problem was recently resolved after two visits to the dealer and 3 days without use of the car. The dealer struggled to follow clearly written, printed instructions about how to reproduce the problem. A software update of some kind was done."

Anonymous, SC (2025 Chevrolet Equinox LT 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

""Phone was nearly impossible to pair. Once it did, it lasted only one day, each time. I received two updates in the time between the reservation and appointment date. The second update appears to have fixed the problem without the need for the shop to intervene.""

Anonymous A., SC (2025 Chevrolet Equinox Activ 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Radio

"Horrible radio. Poor sound, reception. No upgrade available. Unbelievable! Definitely a dealbreaker."

Anonymous, MI (2025 Chevrolet Equinox LT 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Voice control commands

"most often the car says "cannot connect" in response to voice commands."

Anonymous A., NC (2025 Chevrolet Equinox Activ 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"In addition to transmission leak of the brand new car, it was handed over to us with 200 miles on odometer, and no one ever seemed to diagnose a trunk latch problem. We couldnt get the trunk open electronically or by hand."

Anonymous A., NY (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Transmission leaks

"Transmission leaked fluid on the ground. Dealer diagnosed the problem as a manufacturing defect with bolts insufficiently torqued. Transmission had to be removed from the vehicle to properly tighten the bolts."

Anonymous, MI (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"My husband noticed a leak in our garage, brought it in for service. Not fixed. Had to bring it back for more involved service requiring 3 days with a loaner car. This was a brand new car!!!"

Anonymous A., NY (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"Check engine light went on during the winter. This past winter we drove on the PA turnpike for about 120 miles while it was snowing. There wasn't a lot of snow but it was of the wet type with temperatures of around 30 degrees F. Arrived home and parked the car outside. Outdoor temperatures stayed below freezing for more than a week. Two or three days after the trip we went to start the car and the engine light came on. Immediately scheduled a dealer appointment for this problem. Had to wait for opening at the dealership so we didn't drive the car for nearly another week. Made the appointment and after almost a half days wait in the dealership, we were told the problem was with the cars shutters and it wasn't covered under warranty. And they told us that the snow had stuck to and prevented the movement of the shutters. Also told this problem with the shutters was very common with certain vehicles. And they said there wasn't any problem with the engine. Finally, they advised that we had to pay a service diagnostic fee to clear the code. There wasn't anything wrong with the engine, but apparently since the shutters were not working due to the snow, the engine light would come on. See Bulletin No.: PIT6345, Published date: 02/21/2025 After this were of the opinion that perhaps we shouldn't drive this car if its snowing. A large maintenance fee just to clear a code isn't something that we want to have to deal with for no reason. Perhaps CHEVROLET has a design flaw. Note that after complaining with several personnel in the dealership, we were able to have the diagnostic fee waived."

Anonymous, PA (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""Sound eliminating system needed recalibration. Simple fix, but it would vibrate as it went down the road.""

Anonymous, WI (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Transmission went into limp mode with transmission service light came on at only 187 miles on odometer (I had only owned the car for 2 weeks). Solenoid and valve body had to be replaced."

Anonymous, MN (2025 Chevrolet Equinox LT 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"At 1450 engine rpm, regardless of transmission gear, there was an extremely loud booming noise. Dealer found a services bulletin for the problem related to ANC software. New ANC software solved the problem."

Anonymous, MI (2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

What Owners Say

Other major engine problem

"Check engine light would come on and stay on for days. Then, it would go out only to come back on again. It took multiple visits to the dealer, plus I had to leave it overnight twice just to diagnose the problem."

Anonymous, OH (2025 Chevrolet Equinox LT 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

What Owners Say

Tailgate, hatch or trunk

"CHEVROLET changed their packages for 2025 first you no longer have a power seat on the front wheel drive option and you also do not have an automatic liftgate only manual it is obvious that chevy wants you to purchase the all-wheel drive equinox where these are standard for more money I purchased the front wheel drive model because of price and I am sorry I did I should of took the time to research other manufactures"
