Half-Million More Ford F-150 Pickups Recalled to Fix Transmission Problem
The trucks may suddenly shift into first gear, which could cause a loss of vehicle control
Ford is recalling over 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year because their automatic transmission may suddenly downshift into first gear, which could cause a loss of vehicle control and lead to a crash. Ford previously issued two recalls for older F-150 models for the same issue.
Ford F-150 Transmission Recall Details
Vehicles recalled: 2014 Ford F-150 pickup trucks.
The problem: A loss of communication between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module (PCM) can cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into first gear. This could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and lead to a crash.
The fix: Ford dealerships will update the PCM software, free of charge. The software update will illuminate the check engine light if there’s a loss of communication between the PCM and the speed sensor.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332.
NHTSA campaign number: 24V444. Ford’s own number for this recall is 24S37.
