CR's Take
The A6 is relaxing to drive, with a serene, supple ride. Handling is competent and responsive, and the Quattro all-wheel-drive option provides added peace of mind. The 2.8-liter V6 performs just adequately. Two additional models are new for 2000: the 2.7T with a 250-hp turbo V6 and the 4.2 with a 300-hp V8. The superb front seats are large and supportive. The rear seat easily holds two adults, but three are tight. The line includes a well-considered wagon that's a viable alternative to an SUV. Unfortunately, it doesn't get either of the more powerful engines.
