WASHINGTON — The Obama administration today issued new rules to make it easier for patients to appeal the denials of health insurance claims. DeAnn Friedholm, Consumers Union's campaign director for health reform, made the following statement:
“Under these new rules, if your health insurance claim is denied, you’ve got a fairer shot at appealing the decision. It’s another important step in building a health care system that truly works for consumers. We’ve heard from people all over the country who’ve been denied health coverage and found themselves confused and alone, with no idea where to turn next. The new standards for appeals, combined with the state grants to assist consumers trying to find coverage or use their insurance, mean the rules of the system will be clear and enforced. It's a big move in the right direction.”
