House Approves SCHIP: Response by Consumers Union
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House today approved an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, by a vote of 289 to 139.
DeAnn Friedholm, Consumers Union’s campaign director health care reform, made the following statement:
“It’s heartening that the bill was approved by a large margin. This is one piece of the bigger health care puzzle. The challenge now is keeping up the momentum. We have to stay focused on the fact that tackling the economy means tackling health care. A significant part of our economic recovery depends on everyone having access to quality health care they can afford.”
